Our History

StageReady Acting Academy has a rich and vibrant history, rooted in a passion for the performing arts and a commitment to excellence in acting education. Founded in 2005 by renowned actors and educators, Alistair Humphrey and Seraphina Bellweather, StageReady has grown from a small studio in Greenwich Village to a leading acting academy in New York City.

• 2005: Founding of StageReady Acting Academy

  Alistair Humphrey and Seraphina Bellweather, two passionate actors and educators, establish StageReady Acting Academy in a small studio in Greenwich Village, New York City. The academy begins by offering introductory acting classes and workshops, focusing on foundational techniques and character development.

• 2008: Expansion and New Course Offerings

  Due to increasing demand and the academy's growing reputation, StageReady expands its facilities and course offerings. New courses are introduced, including improvisation, scene study, and acting for film and television. The academy also establishes partnerships with local theaters and casting agencies, providing students with valuable networking opportunities.

• 2012: Introduction of the Advanced Performance Program

  StageReady launches the Advanced Performance Program, a rigorous and intensive training program designed for serious actors seeking to pursue a professional career. The program includes advanced scene study, character development, voice and movement training, and audition preparation. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers in theatre, film, and television.

• 2015: Establishment of the StageReady Scholarship Fund

  In an effort to make acting education more accessible, StageReady establishes the StageReady Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance to talented and deserving students. The scholarship fund is supported by donations from alumni, faculty, and friends of the academy. Scholarships are awarded based on talent, financial need, and commitment to the performing arts.

• 2018: Renovation and Modernization of Facilities

  StageReady undertakes a major renovation and modernization project, upgrading its facilities to provide students with state-of-the-art learning spaces. The academy's studios are equipped with advanced lighting, sound, and video equipment, allowing students to hone their skills in a professional setting. The academy also creates a new performance space, providing students with opportunities to showcase their talents in student productions.

• 2020: Adapting to a Changing World

  Like many institutions, StageReady swiftly adapted its curriculum to online learning platforms in response to the global pandemic. While challenging, this transition allowed the academy to reach students beyond New York City, expanding its influence and accessibility. This experience has led to the creation of hybrid learning models that blend the best of in-person and online instruction.

• 2022: Industry Partnership Program Launch

  StageReady formalizes its commitment to connecting students with professional opportunities by launching the Industry Partnership Program. This program facilitates workshops with casting directors, agents, and working actors, providing invaluable insights and networking possibilities. This program is a key differentiator for StageReady students entering the job market.

• 2025: StageReady Today

  Today, StageReady Acting Academy continues to thrive as a leading acting education institution in New York City.
